Lifestyle | Get to know Me Tag

Hellooo there,

Lately, I've been trying to get into the habit of posting regularly here on Krystal Spring and I've really been enjoying sharing my thoughts on life, fashion and posting cheeky little recipes I enjoy and have discovered. So today I thought it might be fun to share a little about myself.

I saw this Get to know me tag over on Jess Cantoni's Food and Lifestyle Blog and I loved the questions so thought I'd give it ago, I haven't been tagged or anything but like that matters.

So here it goes...

1. Are you named after someone?
Yes, my dad is a massive nerd when it comes to superhero's. He was one of those kids that grew up reading comics. He named me after a Marvel hero called Crystal the Inhuman. She appeared in the Fantastic Four comics and her powers include being able to redirect the elements; Earth, wind, fire and water.

2. When was the last time you cried?
It's hard to remember to be honest, I don't cry very often.
Was most likely when watching a mushy film or something.

3. Do you have kids?
Nope, I have a cat baby, does that count?

4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
I'd like to think so, I consider myself to be a pretty loyal person and I'd like to think they would be able to come to be if they need a friend. I'm a pretty good listener :)

5. Do you have a guilty pleasure?

Yes, cheese. I especially like Smoked Applewood and spicy cheese. Me and my husband like to treat ourselves to a cheese and wine evening now and again. The best thing we've had is Baked Camembert with Garlic. Served with crusty bread its just... Uh! Amazing!

6. Do you like handwriting?
I really do, I find it really therapeutic.  I like the sensation of the pen gliding across the paper.. There's something really calming about writing down your thoughts and musings.

7. What is your favourite cereal?
It's a tie. Between Curiously Cinnamon and Coco pops.

8. What is the first thing you notice about people?
Their eyes and mouth.

9. What colour are your eyes?
Hazel :)

10. Scary movie or happy endings?
Always a happy ending, I hate being scared.

11. Favourite TV show?
Gilmore girls and friends, I really wish they'd put them on Netflix.

12. Summer or Winter?
Summer.. Winter just makes me feel gloomy

13. Hugs or Kisses?
Kisses ;)
14. What's the furthest you've been from home?
Cyprus

15. Do you have any special talents?
I'm ridiculously clumsy. Just this weekend I've managed to spill hot tea on the hubby ( which he was very happy about.. NOT) and I sliced my thumb cutting cake, which is clearly a complicated task ha

16. Where were you born?
East London, UK

17. What are your hobbies?
I love to draw, and I love to cook and I really enjoy creative writing.

18. Do you have any pets?

I have a cat called Cherry.

19. Favourite movie?
John Carter

20. What's your favourite animal?
Penguins :)

21. What did you want to be when you grow up?
I really wanted to be a vet and then as I got a little older I wanted to a scientist because I liked mixing chemicals and learning about it at school, that was until I mixed some bathroom cleaning products and burnt myself.. clever me ha

I hope you enjoyed this little insight into who the girl behind the blog.

Good afternoon,

I was having a sit down after work last week, enjoying a lovely cuppa tea and a shortbread biscuit and I was quite in the mood to bake so I thought I'd try my hand at making my own shortbread biscuits and they were actually pretty good so I thought I'd share the recipe. Its pretty simple so why not have a go...

  • 125g/4oz butter
  • 55g/2oz caster sugar, plus extra to finish

Lifestyle | Lately I've Been...

...thinking about why I am the way I am and I’m slowly learning that I can be pretty grumpy and negative a lot of the time. So I sat and thought about why and I realized it’s because I don’t take proper care of myself. Now when I say I don’t take care of myself, I mean in the sense that I neglect what my mind and body really need to feel happy and healthy. However I don’t think I’m the only one who is a bit rubbish at that.

I'm happiest when I've been eating right, when I've been productive and when I've had satisfying interactions with others, but I rarely keep up with giving myself these things in my day to day, I often find myself eating poorly, and lazing about zoned out on my phone but later feel agitated and bored and like I've wasted my day.

I spend a little too much time on social media and find myself comparing myself to others, girls who are thinner, healthier, prettier, have a better sense of style. People who can get a good angle when they take a selfie and put about a million filters on it and leave you feeling like ‘why does she look like God’s gift to mankind and I look like a Troll’. I mean it’s not healthy, it’s not going to empower me and make me feel confident in my own skin, it’s going to make me feel crap about myself and make me feel negative and grumpy. I know it sounds a little vain but how you look does have an impact on how you feel about yourself and does affect your mood.

Another thing I’m really rubbish at is looking after my health. Being unhealthy can really have an impact on your mood. I don’t eat right, I rarely exercise and even when I try to start I’m led astray so easily. It’s almost as if as soon as I tell myself that I can’t have junk food and that I need to make healthier choices, my mind just tells me to eat everything in sight as if I’m rebelling against that side of myself that wants to do better. It’s so frustrating! And I just find myself sitting there feelings gross, overweight and drained.

One last thing that gets me feeling low is my inability to motivate myself and be organized. I constantly feel like I’m juggling all these things I need to get done and rarely feel like I’m keeping up with everything.

So, in an effort to start feeling more positive and happy I’m going to list some goal, I don’t know maybe having these goals written down for all the world to see will help motivate and encourage me to stick them, even track my progress..

1.        Make healthier choices with food - the better I eat the better I’ll feel. But be balanced and allow myself the occasional treat, just to stay sane y'know.

2.      Drink more water - Being well hydrated with help me feel more awake and focused.

3.      Exercise Daily – Even if it’s as little as a 10 minute workout at home or going for a walk.

4.      Spend more time reading and less on social media

5.      Create a schedule or To Do List to keep myself organized

I’ll post about my progress and whether or not I was able to keep these up and let me know in the comments if you struggle with anything I mentioned…

Until next time,
